Natural Language Processing
Language has been one of the most natural methods for human to think, convey, and record their experiences and ideas throughout the history. In this internet era, text on the Web has been being growing in an unprecedented rate. Such Web data is unique in terms of their wide coverage of domains, languages, and styles. We may extract valuable human knowledge by "understanding" text in such massive amount of data for better human life, and more, I believe that language understanding is a way to understand human intelligence.
I'm working on paraphrasing research since it is a good starting point toward natural language understanding. Paraphrases represent the same event in a different language expressions, and thus, they are useful materials to investigate the process of human's language generation. Although paraphrasing is a phenomenon happening within one language, we do not limit our area within it; we regard bilingual text as multilingual paraphrasing and contribute to machine translation technology.
