Teaching and Learning Policy (Curriculum Policy)

Under the curriculum policy of Osaka University and the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, the Master's and Doctoral Programs of the Department of Information and Physical Sciences are organized as follows.

Master's degree program

Principles of Curriculum Design

In the Master's Course, students are required to take basic courses that form the foundation of mathematical and information science, as well as elective courses related to the peripheral fields of mathematical and information science, which are the boundary courses of the major and overseas internship courses. These include (1) specialized courses to deepen advanced expertise and understanding in mathematical science, applied physics, and intelligence science, which form the core of information mathematics, (2) cross-disciplinary courses and advanced liberal arts courses to enhance students' knowledge and education in various fields of information science, and (3) courses to enhance students' ability to communicate with researchers in related fields from an international perspective. (3) Advanced international education courses to enhance students' ability to communicate with researchers in related fields from an international perspective and to systematically organize diverse events, and (4) Seminar and seminar courses to develop logical thinking skills and the ability to make rational judgments in response to situations through academic discussions based on a mathematical approach to information science. In addition to the above courses, research guidance for each student's master's thesis is provided to nurture individuals who have acquired advanced specialized knowledge and skills in mathematical and informatics.

Contents and Methods of Education

The program provides specialized courses, interdisciplinary courses, advanced liberal arts courses, advanced international education courses, seminars and exercises, and research guidance, which particularly require hands-on experience and independent learning. The program also provides students with the opportunity to acquire a broad range of knowledge that meets the diverse needs of society.

Academic Performance Evaluation Method

The achievement of the learning objectives stated in the syllabus will be rigorously evaluated using appropriate methods such as examinations, assignments, and report examinations.

Doctoral degree program

Principles of Curriculum Design

In the doctoral course, students deepen their knowledge and understanding by taking specialized courses to acquire cutting-edge research and development skills in mathematical science, applied physics, and intelligence science, which form the core of information mathematics. In addition, advanced liberal arts education courses, interdisciplinary courses, courses to cultivate an advanced international mindset, and internship courses are also offered to enhance multifaceted interests and education, and to hone the ability to carry out research from a global perspective. In addition to the above subjects, the doctoral dissertation research guidance provided to each student will foster individuals who are capable of creating new academic and social value in the field of mathematical and informatics, with solid capabilities in all areas of expertise, knowledge, culture, internationality, and design.
