Educational Objectives

Based on the educational goals of Osaka University and the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, the degree program "Information Systems Engineering" aims to develop human resources with a wide range of knowledge and skills, from basic to applied, in the field of information systems engineering, who can contribute to the realization of an advanced information society. The program educates students to develop and utilize the hardware and software technologies necessary to realize information systems, as well as highly functional and reliable information systems by integrating these technologies. Our goal is that students who receive this type of education will be able to work at the forefront of the world as engineers, researchers, educators, and other talented individuals in the future.

Degree Awarding Policy (Diploma Policy)

Under the Diploma Policy of Osaka University and the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, the degree program "Information Systems Engineering" awards a Master of Science (Information Science, Science, or Engineering) in the Master's Program and a Doctor of Science (Information Science, Science, or Engineering) in the Doctoral Program to students who have earned the prescribed credits through systematic coursework and submitted a thesis prepared with the necessary research guidance, as follows, and who meet the requirements D. degree (Information Science, Science, or Engineering) in the Master's program, and a Doctoral degree (Information Science, Science, or Engineering) in the Doctoral program.

Master's degree program

Principles of Curriculum Design

In the Master's Course in Information Systems Engineering, in addition to basic subjects covering the field of information systems engineering from integrated circuits to systems, cross-boundary subjects covering important peripheral fields are arranged to provide a systematic coursework to cultivate basic knowledge of the academic field of information systems engineering. In addition, we have cross-disciplinary fusion courses, special lecture courses with invited lecturers from industry and other external sources that cover the latest technological trends, internship courses at domestic and overseas companies and research institutes, project-based seminars, and other courses that cultivate practical skills. In addition, courses from other majors and graduate schools are offered for advanced education. To cultivate an international mindset, we offer overseas internship courses and seminar courses that enable students to understand cutting-edge research from around the world. In addition to offering advanced courses in information systems engineering and related fields that cultivate specialized education, advanced education, and international mindedness, the program also provides excellent research guidance.

Contents and Methods of Education

The program offers basic courses and cross-disciplinary courses that mainly consist of lectures to acquire advanced knowledge, special lecture courses to understand the latest technological trends, exercises and seminars to enhance problem-solving skills through independent study, internship courses that mainly consist of hands-on experience, courses to cultivate internationality and ethical viewpoints, and advanced liberal arts courses to acquire advanced knowledge and skills, as well as research guidance through individualized instruction. The program also provides students with individualized research guidance so that they can acquire a wide range of knowledge in response to the diverse needs of society, and develop the skills needed to become advanced engineers and researchers.

The degree of achievement of the learning objectives stated in the syllabus will be rigorously evaluated using appropriate methods such as examinations, assignments, and reports. In addition, the degree of achievement of education conducted through research guidance will be rigorously evaluated through research papers and research presentations.

Doctoral degree program

Principles of Curriculum Design

In the doctoral program of the Department of Information Systems Engineering, in addition to specialized courses that enable students to acquire cutting-edge science and technology for systematic coursework that deepens advanced specialized knowledge in the academic field of information systems engineering into cutting-edge academic knowledge, students are required to take internship courses at companies and research institutes in Japan and abroad to acquire advanced education. In addition to specialized courses that enable students to acquire cutting-edge science and technology, the program also includes internship courses at domestic and overseas companies and research institutes to acquire advanced education. To cultivate an international mindset, we offer overseas internship courses and seminar courses that enable students to understand cutting-edge research from around the world. In addition to offering advanced courses in information systems engineering that cultivate the students' liberal arts, design skills, and international mindset, the program also provides excellent research guidance.

Contents and Methods of Education

Academic Major education subjects are offered as lectures or seminars, depending on the nature of study. Internship-based subjects are designed to gain work experience and involve preparatory study and post-internship presentation. Seminar-based subjects especially require student-initiated learning. These subjects guide students to foster the ability to create new academic value, and train individuals who can use the academic value to create new social value.

Throughout the Master's and Doctoral programs, we have established a special course for international students to study in English in Information Science English. Non-international students are also able to take courses in this course to cultivate their international mindset.
