Theme
Personalized healthcare and spatial awareness via smartphone/IoT/wireless sensing and AI/LLMs
I am currently working on the following research topics:
* Student support in university settings using low-burden, smartphone-based sensing technologies. Specifically, we use machine learning to estimate sleep problems, study engagement, acute social withdrawal ("hikikomori"), smartphone addiction, and to provide automated feedback to students on these issues.
* Low-burden IoT sensing and personalized interventions for gerontological social isolation and loneliness, including LLM-based AI companion chatbot for supporting the well-being, emotional and mental health of older adults across different cultures (US and Japan).
* Wireless sensing: Tag-free object recognition using microwave signals, localization of backscatter tags, activity recognition, Wi-Fi CSI sensing.
