Theme
Bioinformatics
Due to the development of technology, data concerning various organisms are now being obtained in large amounts. Some of them are exhaustive data investigated about gene activity within cells and tissues under various conditions, some of them are long movies that observe cell behavior in vitro or in vivo. In both cases, the size and complexity of the data surpass the extent of intuitive treatment done by man, and need an efficient application of computer for their analysis. The field that challenges biology problems by applied computer science is called bioinformatics. Within this field I am conducting research in particular the methodologies used in order to search hidden patterns and estimate causal relationship within gene expression profiles -- which are high-dimensional numeric data -- and to perform anomaly detection or knowledge discovery through automatic detection and tracking of cells from image data observed over time.
