Theme

Bio-inspired Information and Communication Technology

The ever-increasing scale and complexity of information and communication systems make conventional design and control methodologies infeasible any more. To establish sustainable information and communication systems which can continuously play a role of social infrastructure supporting our secure, safe, and comfortable life, we need new information and communication technologies (ICT) based on algorithms, mechanisms, and architecture completely different from conventional ones. As a basic principle enabling sustainable ICT, we focus on mechanisms of living organisms. Biological systems have scalability of the size and number, the adaptability and robustness against unpredictable changes and failures. As being found in from cells to society, biological systems have established structure and mechanisms which are energy-efficient and highly adaptive to live and grow in dynamically changing environment. By adopting biological algorithms and mechanisms, we solve various issues that future information and communication systems would face.
