Software Process Automation
Automation and AI technologies are at the core of modern software development. While these tools are often used for prediction and classification problems, their potential for automating software development tasks still remain to be explored. My research interest cover the broad topic of automation for SE. I conduct experiments to find out the potential of modern automation tools to automate complex and recuring software development tasks such as: software quality maintenance, build maintenance, automated software vulnerability repair and automated bug repair.
Software testing and Fuzzing
In recent years, major software vulnerabilities have impacted the open-source ecosystem and propagated around the world. I conduct empirical research to investigate testing and security practices in open-source software. My aim is to improve the safety and security of open-source software by making recommendations to improve software testing practices and providing tools aimed at facilitating the generation and repair of test code.
My team investigates hypotheses related to human factors of software engineering, security, evolution, automation techniques, investigating problems such as these:
- How can we improve the usability of modern software maintenance tools to spread their adoption?
- Can development processes be automated to reduce complexity and save effort?
- Can we automate software quality?
- How can we improve testing practices in the open-source ecosystem?
- How can we improve vulnerability detection and repair in open-source software?
